Under a contract signed by the parties, the Department of Legal Sciences of the University of Salento has secured the right to the supply by Inmatica of 1 km of ‘FiberTech’ sensors, the innovative technology based on DFOS, Distributed Fiber Optic Sensors, designed and validated at CERN in Geneva that Inmatica has brought to the Italian market thanks to its exclusive partnership with FiberSight, the Portuguese CERN start-up company that aims to market the revolutionary fibre optic sensors worldwide.
The agreement involves the installation of 1km of sensors underneath the synthetic turf planned for the brand new football pitch at CUS, the UniSalento University Sports Centre, in an area within the Ecotekne university campus.
The innovating sensors will allow the acquisition of real-time data by monitoring hundreds of points on the playing field simultaneously, offering exceptional efficiency and precision in the contextual acquisition of temperature and humidity, extremely relevant parameters for perfect maintenance of the facility, both in terms of eco-sustainable management of resources, and in terms of injury prevention for the athletes, who will be able to carry out competitive activities and training sessions on a playing field that is always perfectly intact.
This is the first purchase and sale agreement in Italy of DFOS sensors, which is part of the broader project launched by the Degree Course in Law and Sport Management of the Department of Legal Sciences, which will see Inmatica playing a leading role, aimed at the creation of an innovative Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Sport, which aims in particular to develop AI-based systems capable of providing aid in the field of sport to operators in the sector.
Inmatica expresses its great satisfaction and thanks to UniSalento for reaching an agreement that lays solid foundations for a technological breakthrough regarding the use of an extraordinarily innovative and low-cost instrumentation that is unique in the world and capable of bringing objective benefits to the community and numerous other fields of application such as agritech, civil engineering and water loss in aqueducts.
