Next Saturday, 4 January at 12.30 p.m., on Rai Uno, Inmatica will be featured in the episode dedicated to Salento by the TV show “Linea Verde Italia”, hosted by Monica Caradonna and Elisa Isoardi, with a special focus on agriculture, biodiversity, environmental sustainability, innovation and ecological transition.
RAI’s long-running TV programme will visit the Botanical Garden on the University of Salento’s Ecotekne campus, a 1.7-hectare centre supporting the teaching and research activities of the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences and Technologies, housing various plant collections in the open air with a special focus on preserving plant biodiversity.
At the Botanic Garden itself, Inmatica, in collaboration with the University and the Portuguese company FiberSight, has recently launched and successfully completed the world’s first integrated test of the application in a real-world context of the innovative ‘thermo-hygrometric’ fibre optic sensors designed and validated at CERN in Geneva. The sensors, installed for a linear extension of about 120m, and integrated by an appropriate hardware management system and a software developed ad hoc by Inmatica, are able to monitor the ground in real time at a depth of about 50 cm, offering exceptional efficiency and precision in the contextual acquisition of parameters such as temperature and humidity.
Our colleague Enrico Junior Schioppa, Technical Leader of the project, was able to explain to the presenter how the ‘technology-biodiversity’ combination can be a real added value for improving certain cultivation practices that can play a decisive role in maintaining biodiversity; To this end, Enrico was then able to illustrate the extraordinary potential of the integrated solution tested at the Botanic Garden, which exploits a single distributed sensor and a single power and data point without any additional infrastructure, while guaranteeing efficiency and quality at an infinitely lower cost than any other instrument currently available on the market.
Inmatica would like to thank RAI for the opportunity to present to millions of viewers in Italy and around the world the extraordinary experiment at the Botanical Garden carried out in synergy and full collaboration with leading partners such as the University of Salento and FiberSight, which can really open up innovative scenarios of enormous impact and social utility.
