Advanced Electrophysiology and Artificial Intelligence Platform for the Discovery of Novel Neurological Therapies

Corticale, Inmatica and “Mario Negri” Pharmacological Research Institute are launching project AHEAD – AI-driven High-density Electrophysiology for Advanced Drug Discovery, a strategic initiative focused on the study of acute and chronic neurological damage and on the development of innovative therapies with high clinical impact.

The project is co-funded by the Lombardy Region through the “Collabora & Innova” program. Within this framework, Inmatica will receive a contribution of 825.776,16€ against a total investment of 1.651.552,31€. The program supports complex industrial research projects with great innovative potential across the region.

The project partners have established a high-level scientific and technological collaboration aimed at the development and validation of a novel platform to support ultra-high-resolution electrophysiology, leveraging a new generation of sensors capable of recording the electrical activity of individual neurons.

Thanks to this technology, it will be possible, for the first time, to obtain extremely detailed spatiotemporal data on brain function, directly and precisely observing how each neuron responds to neurological damage or to neuroprotective treatments.

This approach represents a qualitative leap in the understanding of neurophysiological mechanisms and opens up new perspectives for pharmacological research. The integration of artificial intelligence will make it possible to analyze an unprecedented volume of brain data and transform it into actionable knowledge to sustain the development of new therapies, significantly contributing to the advancement of neurological research and to improving patients’ quality of life.
