Wearable piezoelectric sensors

Inmatica and theLecce-based Center for Biomolecular Nanotechnologies of theItalian Institute of Technology have signed a collaboration agreement that establishes an important joint project activity aimed at the design and realisation of innovative sensors to be applied in the field of human health and wellbeing.
In general, the agreement arises from the mutual objective of the parties to pool research and industrial experience for the creation of value in the Healthcare and MedTech sector. Specifically, the project will use innovative technologies based on flexible piezoelectric materials, whose sensitivity to deformations makes it possible to design new sensors for deformations caused by mechanical forces and acoustic waves: on the basis of these properties, electronic ‘wearable’ patches will be created that can be applied to the skin and that can read tissue alterations due to arterial deformations and sounds emitted by the body or due to particular chemical elements present in body fluids.
